Determing Yarn Weight & Hook 🧶📏
See original sources for more information.
Check the label:
It will indicate the weight and corresponding hook size.
*For Amigurumi, use a hook half the size of that recommended to ensure there are more holes that stuffing can poke through. Technically: The larger your hook and yarn, the bigger the toy, the smaller your hook and yarn, the smaller the toy. But be forwarned, the pattern itself may have to be adjusted too.
Yarn weight chart:

What it might look like:

No label? Now what?
1. Wrap your yarn around a hook or ruler
2. Measure & count the number of strands in and inch
3. Check the yarn weight chart above (or google to dind one):
This is approx 16 WPI (wraps per inch), so it is most likely a: superfine wool that requires a 2.25-3.5mm hook.

Happy yarning!
