Ribbed Beanie ❄️ Crochet Pattern

General Crochet Abbreviation:

-Ls: left side
-Rs: right side
-Ws: wrong side
-Ct: center
-Beg: beginning
-; ; : complete stitches between ; & ; in same stitch
-, , : complete stitches in separate stitches
-* * : repeat actions as many times as indicated by the “x#” or until the end of the row
-# stitches: e.g. 2 sc make a sc into the next two stitches
-#stitches: e.g. 3sc make 3 single crochets into same stitch
-Ch: chain
-Ch-sp: chain space

-LS: left side

-RS: right side

-ctr: center
-Mc: magic circle
-Sl st: slip stitch
-Sc: single crochet
-Tr: triple/treble crochet
-Dc: double crochet
-Hdc: half double crochet
-Flo: front loop only
-Blo: back loop only

-Bob: bobble stitch
-Fp: front post
-Bp: back post
-Inc: make two stitches into same stitch (increases number of stitches by 1)
-Dec (invisible): sc by hooking into flo of the next two stitches stitches (decreases number of stitches by 1)
-Sk st: skip stitch
-Yo: yarn over
-Yu: yarn under
-Sts: stitch(s)

-Fasten off: cut yarn and pull tail through loop (if fastening off a circle, first thread needle and weave through Flo, pull tight to close, continue with fasten off)

*Some rows may have extra stitches- for example not enough stitches to complete the instructions ie. only two stitches for: sc, inc – sc the extra stitches or go into the next row depending on required stitches for that row.

Materials:

  • Yarn: Yarnspiratons Bernat Softee chunky size 6 super bulky in teal
  • Hook: 8 mm
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch marker

Pattern:

Body:

1: Ch 51
2: Hdc into chain, ch 1
3-24: Hdc into camel stitch OR 3rd loop (hdc into 3rd loop: to find 3rd loop look at top row to see the Vs of the stitches, lie flat, see the dashed line just under the V, this is the third loop), ch 1

***Line up sides and pin together. Try on. If you want a looser fit crochet additional hdc rows.

5: Fasten off, weave in tail.

Sew together sides:

1: Fold over sideways (stripes should be vertical)

2: Line up sides (pin if helpful)

3: Sl st to attach yarn

4: Sl St blo to close opening (make sure the stitches line up)

5: Fasten off, weave in tail.

Top:

-Thread yarn into a needle.

-Weave in and out of top row of stitches.

-Pull tight to cinch closed.

-Fasten off, weave in tail.

-Turn inside out.

Brim:

1: Fold up brim

2: Hide any visible tails
