Handbag Crochet Pattern (Granny Square) 👵💟👜


General Abbreviations:
-Ls: left side
-Rs: right side
-Ct: center
-; ; : complete stitches between ; & ; in same stitch
-, , : complete stitches in separate stitches
-*. * : repeat actions as many times as indicated by the x# or until the end of the row
-# stitches: e.g. 2 sc make a sc into the next two stitches
-Mc: magic circle
-Sl st: slip stitch
-Sc: single crochet
-Tr: triple/treble crochet
-Dc: double crochet
-Hdc: half double crochet
-Flo: front loop only
-Blo: back loop only
-Inc: make two stitches into stitch (increases number of stitches by 1)
-#stitches: e.g. 3sc make 3 single crochets into same stitch
-Dec: sc by hooking into flo of the next two stitches stitches (decreases number of stitches by 1)
-Sk st: skip stitch
-Yo: yarn over

Pattern:

Materials:
-Black Animation 100% combed mercerized cotton DK/3 light weight yarn (Purchase from crochet.com and get 15% off with my code: AWCNITSBYTARALEE10 – click here for link
-2 mm hook
-Yarn needle
-Sissors
Closure – 6 sewable magnets:
-Used in pattern – EEEKit Magnetic Clothing Clips Snap in plastic (Amazon Canada – click here for link)
Maybe a nicer cleaner look & may negate the need for glue – FUNCYboo magnet snaps with sewing holes (Amazon Canada – click here or link)
-Glue gun (to glue magnets)
Pattern:
Step 1:
For each granny square complete an 8th row in black:
-join black yarn,
-working in previous rows ch spaces, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc* x 4 (corners) &
4 dc x 28 (in between corners),
-slip stitch into first dc,
-fasten off and weave in ends.
Step 2:
Crochet the handles (make 2):
Round 1: Make a slip knot and chain 15, slip stitch to first chain
2-85: *SC BLO* x 15
-Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing

Step 3:
-Lay out the granny squares in the bag pattern

-Sew (whip stitch) the squares together, blo, fasten off and weave in ends

-You can do it in any manner that works: I did it by sewing all the seams together in one direction and sewing along the other seam lines)

-Turn the project over, bend the side squares and bottoms square in (you can fasten them in place with a pin) and sew the rest of the squares in place

Step 4:
Top of bag edging:
Round 1: SC around the top edge of the bag
2: *Ch 1, sl st*
Step 5:
-Sew on handles

Step 5 (optional):
-Sew in a long strap (sew down sides and on rather end)

-Add closure magnets at two triangle points and centre dip (lightly glue gun and then sew on)
