Basic Granny Square Crochet Pattern

General Abbreviations:

-Ls: left side
-Rs: right side
-Ct: center
-;    ; : complete stitches between ; & ; in same stitch

-, , : complete stitches in separate stitches

-*. * : repeat actions as many times as indicated by the x# or until the end of the row
-# stitches: e.g. 2 sc make a sc into the next two stitches
-Mc: magic circle
-Sl st: slip stitch
-Sc: single crochet
-Tr: triple/treble crochet
-Dc: double crochet
-Hdc: half double crochet
-Flo: front loop only

-Blo: back loop only
-Inc: make two stitches into stitch (increases number of stitches by 1)
-#stitches: e.g. 3sc make 3 single crochets into same stitch
-Dec: sc by hooking into flo of the next two stitches stitches (decreases number of stitches by 1)

-Sk st: skip stitch
-Yo: yarn over

-2 mm hook
-Yarn needle
-Sissors

Pattern:

Round 1:

-using yarn A,

-3 dc, ch2 x 4 (corners) into a magic ring,

-slip stitch into first dc,

-fasten off and cut yarn (crochet yarn ends into next row)

Round 2:

-join yarn B,

-working in previous rows ch spaces, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc x 4,

-slip stitch into first dc,

-fasten off and cut yarn (crochet yarn ends into next row)

Round 3:

-join yarn C,

-working in previous rows ch spaces, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc* x 4 (corners) &
3 dc x 4 (in between corners, in non chain spaces)

OR [3 dc; 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc; 3 dc; 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc; 3 dc; 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc; 3 dc; 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc]

-slip stitch into first dc,

-fasten off and cut yarn (crochet yarn ends into next row)

Round 4:

-join yarn D,

-working in previous rows ch spaces, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc* x 4 (corners) &
3 dc x 8 (in between corners),

-slip stitch into first dc,

-fasten off and cut yarn (crochet yarn ends into next row)

Round 5:

-join yarn D,

-working in previous rows ch spaces, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc* x 4 (corners) &
3 dc x 12 (in between corners),

-slip stitch into first dc,

-fasten off and cut yarn (crochet yarn ends into next row)

Round 6: join yarn E,

-working in previous rows ch spaces, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc* x 4 (corners) &
3 dc x 16 (in between corners),

-slip stitch into first dc,

-fasten off and cut yarn (crochet yarn ends into next row)

Round 7:

-join yarn F,

-working in previous rows ch spaces, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc* x 4 (corners) &
3 dc x 20 (in between corners),

-slip stitch into first dc,

-fasten off and cut yarn (crochet yarn ends into next row)

Round 8:

-join yarn F,

-working in previous rows ch spaces, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc* x 4 (corners) &
3 dc x 24 (in between corners),

-slip stitch into first dc,

-fasten off and weave in ends.
